Projects: Tool Time

Tooltime In their ausio-visual surround installation TOOL-TIME, Fabian Stuebi and Michael Eberli once again re-contextualise everyday electronics and gadgets by mechanical reconstruction and acoustic distortion.

Based on live-video footage, PERSON IN INDUSTRIAL WONDERLAND and PING ON use an interactive surround concept as a frame. Visitors are invited to participate in an interactive orchestral experience. The transformed tools can be played manually by recipient him- or herself.

The self-designed or everyday gadgets are amplified, thus growing into a poly-morphonic orchestra. By means of a 50-Hertz magnet taken from a disused footbath, a bucket of water will magically create geometric patterns, which roam the room in a granular-modulated and three-dimensional way. The simple lid of a cooking pot becomes the source of orchestral beauty when drawn through a bow. The visitor roams the room and the acoustics of the room roam the visitor. To discover the truth behind those magic sound tricks, it will probably take a closer look at the mechanical world...

“A music event, which made a great impression, was performance of Swiss group Person from Zurich. Artists from Switzerland made a perfect performance, using both progressive visualizations and non-typical sounds sources. Heating ping-pong balls, hover blowing polyurethane foam and so on were controlled with midi controllers and sequencers. With this all shows was absolutely serious music phenomenon. Perfect, well-thought-out, electronic .” (Press release from syntezatory.pl and FutureShock broadcast of Jazz Radio). This journalists opinion fits perfect to description the artist impression after the show, made by Person members. The audience in amount of 200 people was watching and listening over 4 hours of concert.
